Company profile and a bit of history

The headquarters of KERAMOST, a.s. and its legal predecessors is located in the city of Most. Before the merger of individual small private production and mining companies, which over several decades formed today's joint-stock company, it was customary for the administrative building to be practically always part of the operational facilities. This situation became outdated and had to be abandoned. Therefore, after 1945, the headquarters of Mostecké keramické závody (Most Ceramic Works) and subsequently Severočeské keramické závody Most (North Bohemian Ceramic Works Most) were located in an Art Nouveau villa near the city center. With the company's expansion and rationalization of management, this situation became increasingly unsatisfactory. The decisive impetus for change was the complete demolition of the old town of Most. As a result, a modern building was constructed on the outskirts of the city in a convenient location with adequate space and facilities. The company's headquarters have been located there since January 1, 1978, to this day. The principle of keeping the company's headquarters in the center of the North Bohemian Basin was maintained, as it is linked to a number of activities, is at an optimal distance from most of its subordinate units—operations and mining sites—and also has convenient connections to state and professional administration institutions.

The joint-stock company KERAMOST was founded on January 1, 1994, through the transformation of the former state-owned enterprise Severočeské keramické závody Most (SKZ, n.p.). The tradition of ceramic production dates back to around 1880, when the legal predecessors of KERAMOST already used raw material resources in the region and found markets for their products in the rapidly developing industry of northern Bohemia. This mainly concerns fireclay products, stoneware, kaolin, and later also bentonite.

The Obrnice plant was put into operation in 1969, replacing the existing modified bentonite production plant in Libkovice. To date, the plant remains the most significant producer of bentonite-based products in the Czech Republic. The majority of the product range was previously intended for metallurgy and later also for construction, animal husbandry, geology, animal feed, wastewater treatment, and solid waste landfilling.

After transitioning to private ownership under the name KERAMOST, a.s., a number of investments were made at the production site Obrnice. The modernized site now includes a well-equipped laboratory that provides free services to foundry customers and also performs inter-operational and final inspections of all products. This guarantees the homogeneity of deliveries and compliance with the agreed specifications. Recent investments in the site Obrnice include a second automatic filling and packaging line, wrapping equipment, a truck weighbridge, a filling line for silo trucks and big bags, a backup LPG source as an alternative to drying bentonite raw material with natural gas, and a new product sorting system.

Due to the expansion of the production capacity of bentonite cat litter, the fireclay plant near Prunéřov was rebuilt into a modern facility for this product. There are two automatic filling and packaging lines here. One of them allows packaging into cardboard boxes using a robotic arm. The plant includes newly built storage halls. The production site Želenice processes Phonolite, which is largely used as a flux in glass production.
