Bentonite is a clay rock with a strong sorption capacity, high cation exchange value, swelling and plasticity. These properties are mainly provided by the mineral montmorillonite. Bentonite was formed by mechanical and chemical weathering of the parent rock, mainly volcanic tuffs and tuffites and other mainly Tertiary rocks.
KERAMOST, a.s. has a number of its own quarries with various types of bentonites. The differences are not only in color, but especially in properties (e.g. plasticity, thermostability, absorbency, etc.), which have a fundamental influence in various technological applications. By mixing them, it is possible to create a product exactly according to the customer's requirements. According to geological surveys, the reserves of existing deposits are estimated to last at least another 100 years.
